Do You Have Reading Envy?

February 22, 2019 by Barbara McNichol Leave a Comment

By Abby Marks Beale

Don’t you just envy people who always keep up with their reading? You may be surprised to know that a quick reading speed is not the only way to get caught up. It’s those who devote an adequate amount of TIME to it are also the ones who are not haunted by their “to-read stack.”

Being Intentional with Your Reading

That makes sense, you say, BUT you’re feeling time-starved? It’s really as simple as being intentional about wanting to make more time to read.

Review these common-sense suggestions. Which ones do you already do? Which ones you can start doing to relieve your reading guilt and get more reading done?

Capitalize on free moments by always having something with you from your reading pile – be it digital or on paper – and kept in your car, in your purse or briefcase, etc.  An unexpected delay in an appointment is now viewed as a gift of time.

Watch less (or no) TV! If you watch an hour or more of television a day, just think how much reading you could get done if you swapped some TV time with reading just a few days a week!

Only read things that are of value to you so you don’t waste your precious reading time on useless material.

Plan it! Make an appointment with yourself during work hours (this may mean moving to a conference room to get peace and quiet), on weekends (you can read while kids are watching cartoons) or during your commute (if you have one where you’re not driving!)

Try to read more at your peak time(s) of day – your most mentally awake and alert times. If you are a morning person, then make some time then. If you are a night owl, carve out time after dark.

Upgrade your reading skills so however much time you do spend, you get a lot more accomplished! You can take our interactive reading course online OR if you prefer to learn auditorily, you can start by listening to the 10 Days to Faster Reading audiobook available on Audible.com.

March is National Reading Month. Here’s to getting more time to read!

The Gift of Speed Reading

May 21, 2017 by Barbara McNichol Leave a Comment

by Barbara McNichol

How can you optimize your reading speed to achieve success? What kind of freedom and confidence can speed reading deliver?

When I asked these questions, a solution appeared in the form of a Rev It Up Reading course and an entertaining 60-second video to explain the course.

Video Answers the Question WHY. Take a look here.

This video reinforces Rev It Up Reading’s key course features, including:
• self-paced, online convenience
• techniques for rapid reading improvement
• how it can help you read more in less time
• encouraging folks to engage with our free trial offer

My experience: I’ve been diving into this program and it’s already helped me “skim” through a nonfiction book I needed to read for a deadline. Yes, it takes practice (and I need plenty more of it), but I’m encouraged by how much faster I’ve been reading with the comprehension I need.

Holiday Gift-Giving Ideas for Lovers of Language in Your Life

December 4, 2016 by Barbara McNichol Leave a Comment

With holiday gift-giving upon us, what could you give to the writer, student, business professional, or English language learner in your world? I have three excellent suggestions: Word Tripper Tips, Rev It Up Reading, and a new book Metaphors Be With You.

1. Word Tripper Tips

Consider giving the gift of accuracy—a practical subscription program that features Word Tripper of the Week for 52 weeks with the Word Trippers ebook included plus excellent bonuses.

A Word Tripper is a succinct way to explain the difference between word pairs that commonly get confused—affect vs. effect, accept vs. except, and many more. When people know the difference and use the words accurately, they feel more confident in their writing and look smart, too!

Place a word choice guide at their fingertips—instantly. Go to www.WordTrippers.com/gift

Do you have several people on your list to send this to? Become an affiliate!

Know any English language educators? Suggest this program for helping students grasp our language better. Send them this link. #LearnEnglish #ESL #words #writing

2. Rev It Up Reading Program

Here’s a fabulous speed reading program that’s perfect for busy professionals and those who want to further their studies and careers. It was created by speed reading expert Abby Marks Beale, the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Speed Reading and 10 Days to Faster Reading.

Various options are available. Go here for complete details.

3. Metaphors Be With You: An A to Z Dictionary of History’s Greatest Metaphorical Quotations

Dr. Mardy Grothe presents a new compendium of the English language’s finest metaphors with a meditation on their beauty and necessity. This essential guide for writers, readers, and anybody in love with language breaks new ground with its use of QR codes. These codes take you to a corresponding database on the web, making this work “a living, breathing museum.”

Order it here or through Amazon or Barnes & Noble in time for the holidays.

Never Too Late to Rev Up Your Reading

October 15, 2016 by Barbara McNichol Leave a Comment

by Barbara McNichol

When I started university many moons ago, I saw a need for knowing how to read FAST. Reading opens up avenues to learning, and I was revving up for a long academic and professional career centered on reading as well as writing.

But the speed-reading course I took then didn’t cut it for me. Blame it on distractions of being a freshman and all the temptations of life away from home. It was a bust!

Read with Speed

Now, I have the opportunity to make up for it through a fabulous speed reading program called Rev It Up Reading. I’m jazzed about it because I know it’s not too late to read with speed—for my editing work, my professional development, and my desire to read for fun.

This online course helps you take control of any reading workload. It’s perfect for busy professionals and for those looking to further their studies and careers. You might be even inspired to finish those half-read books on your bookshelf with speed and comprehension. That’s my goal!

Speed Reading Expert

The comprehensive Rev It Up Reading program was created by speed reading expert Abby Marks Beale. As the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Speed Reading and 10 Days to Faster Reading, she has decades of experience teaching this skill.

Want to know more? Please go here for complete details on a variety of amazing online options—including a free 24-hour pass to try out the materials before you buy.
